Do I Need A PageRank To Be Ranked On Google’s Search Results?

Posted in Optimize And Monetize, SEO by DB

Are you obsessed with your PageRank? To tell you the truth, at some level we all are no matter how much we deny it. Google and its PageRank algorithm have forever changed the authority metrics for a website. The main reason for this obsession is ofcourse the SERP’s factor. The assumption is that pages with a high page rank will be ranked higher in Google. No points for guessing that one. Ofcourse keep in mind we are talking about the real page rank and not the toolbar page rank.

The Real PageRank of a website changes almost daily and is a factor of many many variables that the Google search algorithm processes. The key factor however still remains backlinks and the focus is now shifted from quantity to quality. The toolbar PageRank is a static number that changes once every 12 weeks or so.

A popular misconception in the webmaster world is that you have to have a Page Rank to rank at all in Google’s search results. This is completely false.

Let me demonstrate. I started this blog about a month back, and though my domain name had about 5 years on it, its page rank was and still is 0 or N/A (depends on where you check it) at the time of writing this post. I has done absolutely nothing with this domain name for all these years (except for a brief stint as a reseller). The blog is about a month old now, I have been posting as often as I can which is not as often as I would have liked. Anyway, I did some searches using some longtail keywords and I was pleasantly surprised to see this blog listed on the very first page. So what’s the takeaway here? Page Rank is but one of the factors that determine your search engine rankings, one of the 200 odd or so factors. You have to equally concentrate on all the other SEO factors to rank high and bring in a lot of organic visitors to your website.
