SEO Tips To Consider Even Before You Register A Domain.

You’ve found a domain name you like. Congratulations !!! Now the fun starts. Over time I’ve learned that SEO (search engine optimization) starts right from the time you register a domain.
Of late, the following are a few steps that I do to ensure my fledgling site gets the best start as far as SEO is concerned. The main goal here is to convince the search engines that my site is the real thing and not a spammy or fly by night operation.
- Register the domain for a minimum of 5 years.
- Register the domain with an expensive registrar.
- Register all available global top level extensions.
Remember our goal, no fly by night operation would register a domain for longer than 1 year. So by registering my domain for 5 plus years, I’m sending out an important message. I plan to be around for atleast 5 years.
A 5 year registration at Network Solutions will cost you close to $100. By choosing to go with an expensive registrar, the message I’m sending out is I plan to be around for atleast 5 years and I am ready to invest in my domain
As a rule, I always try and snap up all available domain extensions for my domain name. Apart from protecting my brand, I believe it also sends out an important message to the public and ofcourse search engines. I plan to be around for atleast 5 years, I am ready to invest in my domain and I believe in protecting my brand. Just remember to redirect all users to your main domain extension (usually the .com) and have the same contact information for all domain extensions.
Now the question is Should I do this for all the domains I register? It depends, I do this for domains that I have a concrete plan, for the others I do everything I’ve mentioned except the registration term. Once I have a definite plan for a particular domain, I increase the registration period to atleast 5 years.
Search engine optimization is something none of us can afford to ignore. The sooner we think, plan and act, the better our SERP (Search engine results page/position) turns out.
Good luck !!
